Tankless hot water Sydney: endless hot water sized to your home

Tankless hot water systems Sydney wide heat water only as it flows, so you never run out and you lose nothing to standby heat loss. Sizing is what makes or breaks the result: 20 to 24 L/min suits three people, 26 L/min covers a typical four to five person family, and 32 L/min handles three simultaneous outlets.

We install and repair Rinnai Infinity, Bosch, Rheem and Thermann continuous flow units. If you are switching from a storage tank, our hot water plumber Sydney team checks gas line and meter capacity first so your new hot water heater performs at rated flow.

Why flow rate, not tank size, is the number that matters

Tankless units are rated in litres per minute at a given temperature rise. A shower draws around 9 L/min, a kitchen tap 6 L/min. Two showers at once therefore need at least 20 L/min of real capacity in winter, when incoming mains water in Sydney drops to roughly 14 to 16 degrees and the unit has to work harder for the same output.

That winter temperature rise is why a unit that felt fine in February can disappoint in July. We size for the coldest month, not the average, so performance does not fall away exactly when you notice it most.

Gas supply, minimum flow and the cold water sandwich

Continuous flow units are only as good as the gas delivered to them. A 32 L/min unit on a line sized for an old storage heater will never reach rated output, so we check meter capacity and line sizing before quoting an upgrade rather than after installation.

The brief cold slug some homes notice between two short draw offs is normal burner behaviour rather than a fault, and it is largely solved with correct sizing, sensible plumbing runs and, where it genuinely bothers a household, a small buffer arrangement. We explain the trade offs rather than selling hardware that does not fix the cause.
